Flux’
Flux’, a dynamic band that emerged in the vibrant music scene of the ’90s, experienced a brief revival in 2011. The group, recognized for its experimental fusion of rock, funk, and hip-hop, drew inspiration from a range of genres. Often likened to Zappa, Flux’ delivered a unique musical experience.
Their album, ‘Norwegian Pickle Office,’ showcased the band’s eclectic sound, featuring a single titled ‘Abfahrt!’. Flux’ was renowned for their exceptional live performances, earning a reputation as a standout live band. The lineup included talented musicians such as Jurre Engelsman on guitar, Joris van Kessel on bass, and Remko Wind on keys.
Collaborating with guest musicians, Flux’ worked with jazz pianist Frans Mathijssen (known for his contributions to Doe Maar) on the single ‘Abfahrt!’. The band incorporated diverse instruments, including the didgeridoo, into their sonic palette.
Flux’ actively toured in the Netherlands and Germany, amassing several accolades, including various pop prizes. Their musical journey included sharing the stage with iconic artist Herman Brood as part of his opening act.
JJ Lowland
Founded in the early ’90s by zkohp, JJ Lowland was a musical venture where zkohp took the helm as the primary songwriter. Initially serving as the lead singer and guitarist, zkohp later transitioned to singing from behind the drum kit. The band’s steadfast guitarist was Jurre Engelsman. JJ Lowland crafted a blend of pop-rock, drawing influences from the likes of Masters of Reality and Neil Young. As the musical journey evolved, JJ Lowland eventually transformed into the acclaimed band Flux’.
Tuning Band
Tuning Band, in which zkohp played only briefly, features the Amsterdam-based Indonesian singer-guitarist Hengky Supit (Whizzkid). Specializing in covers, the band delivered renditions of songs from iconic bands like U2, Queen, White Stripes, Kings of Leon, Audioslave, Thin Lizzy, and various other rock legends. With skilled musicians, Tuning Band showcased a repertoire spanning decades of rock music.
JB Expo
JB Expo or Jan Bouma Experience as it was initially named, a band that thrived in the vibrant music scene of the ’80s and ’90s, was spearheaded by vocalist/guitarist Dick Zutt, the primary songwriter for the group. Known for their distinctive blend of new wave and pop music, JB Expo often drew inspiration from the likes of The Cure and The Beatles.
The band’s repertoire showcased a mix of English and Dutch lyrics, reflecting different creative periods. With a dynamic history, JB Expo experienced numerous lineup changes. Notable members included Jan Bouma on guitar and Patrick Zimmerman (also known for his work with Pixies coverband Vamos) on guitar or bass and vocals.
